St. Johns Ship Building of Jacksonville Florida, delivered a totally electric glass bottom tour boat “Chief Potackee Betty Mae Tiger Jump” to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Agency in June.
Designed by Lay, Pitman & Associates, the new aluminum boat is working in north central Florida’s Silver Springs State Park. The Twin EP-20 Elco electric outboards are powered with four Lithionics 7.5kW Lithium-Ion batteries. The outboards are fixed with 8” diameter 3 bladed props with a 9.25 pitch. The electric motors give the vessel a running speed of 10 knots.
The Glass Bottom Tour boat has been nominated for Workboat of the Year by Workboat Magazine, an honor also bestowed on a New York State Tug boat powered by Twin Elco EP-100 inboard motors.
