The 20-foot electric Legacy brings 35 mph top-end speed, all-day operation, and classic runabout gorgeousness to
a practical, low-maintenance speedboat.
Lancer Craft’s easy maintenance and Elco’s performance create an electric-powered classic with broad appeal.
The well-proportioned lines, rich wood grain, and gleaming varnish of a classic mahogany runabout are stunning, but upkeep steers most boaters toward more practical craft. Lancer Craft’s “modern vintage”
boats combine the timeless elegance of wood with just-wash-and-wax practicality through innovative all-fiberglass construction. Elco’s EP-250 and solid-state batteries add exhilarating performance and all-day boating from electric propulsion.
The resulting Electric Legacy is a gorgeous speedboat with practical electric power and broad appeal to typical boaters. “Our cutting-edge motors and battery flexible design allow us to compete with gas or diesel pound for pound in size and performance,” says Dean Heinemann, Elco’s GM.
Electrifying Performance
Classic runabouts are synonymous with big gas engines, but performance no longer requires petroleum. Elco’s newest brushless PMAC motor, which replaces 250 hp gas engines but weighs just 205 pounds, pushes the Electric Legacy faster than 35 mph. Punching the throttle provides quick acceleration, and power steering makes the boat responsive yet well-mannered. Solid-state batteries, which double the stored watts yet are half the weight and a third smaller than typical wetÂelectrolyte lithium batteries, push the Legacy more than 30 miles at 30 mph and more than 40 miles at 20 mph. Forget about range anxiety, too. The Legacy runs for 22 hours at 7 mph, and a solid week, every day from sunup to sundown, at 5 mph. By replacing gas engines, Elco also eliminates exhaust odors along with the fueling mess and time spent at the gas dock.
Minimal Maintenance
Lancer Craft’s faux woodgrain brings benefits beyond easy care. The photographic image, imprinted on fiberglass cloth and embedded right into the mold as the first layer of the boat’s laminate, emulates rich, full grained South American mahogany but doesn’t add weight, upfront cost or environmental impact associated with traditional wooden decks.
It also saves thousands of dollars and hours of downtime each year needed to maintain varnished wood. The classic diamondÂweave marine vinyl upholstery requires equally little upkeep. Elco propulsion reduces maintenance as well, with no exhaust system, simplified seawater plumbing, no transmission, and just four moving parts. Together, Lancer Craft drawing on the heritage of classic runabouts, and Elco’s experience with electric power, are propelling their Legacy into the future.
