While the EP “Pure Electric” Systems use only batteries to power watercraft, Elco’s hybrid electric propulsion motors offer a combination of electric and fuel power sources. With hybrid electric propulsion motors, boaters can reap the benefit of clean, powerful and quiet electric power combined with fuel as an additional auxiliary power source as needed.
An Elco EP System can be upgraded to a hybrid by choosing a small diesel-powered generator set for added charging capacity. An Elco System can run continuously with the correct size generator.
Choose from Three Hybrid Electric Propulsion Options:
The EP Hybrid Electric Serial System consists of both our Patented Electric Motor and standard components coupled with a marine generator. The generator will sip fuel while recharging the batteries. This system is perfect for sailboats, lobster boats, trawlers, yachts, and more. It’s an ideal match for boaters who go on day cruises and want to have a backup power supply.
The EP Hybrid Electric Parallel System consists of both our Patented Electric Motor and standard components coupled with a combustion motor. Silently cruise with the electric motor or flip the switch and use the combustion motor, all while simultaneously recharging the batteries. This system is ideal for all boats up to 85’ looking to take advantage of environmentally friendly hybrid electric propulsion motors.
The EP Hybrid Electric Parallel and Serial System provides the best of all three EP combinations. Cruise silently for hours on the Elco electric motor, or quietly run the AC generator while keeping the batteries charged. You can also flip the switch and fire up the combustion motor, which charges the batteries while propelling the vessel. This system is perfect for all inboard applications.
With hybrid electric propulsion motors, you can enjoy the low maintenance costs, limited noise and emission-free operation of an electric motor and use the extra power boost of a diesel motor wherever and whenever you choose. Elco will work with you to select the best hybrid electric propulsion motors to serve your needs. For more information, click here.
