Tour the Peconic Bay on GLORY

GLORY is the perfect cruising vessel for Peconic Bay. It is unique in that it is the only cruise boat in New York that produces zero emissions, is virtually quiet, and leaves nothing that is harmful to the environment. It is New York’s only “Green” Electric-powered harbor tour boat certificated by the United States Coast Guard.

This means that Glory- a reproduction of a 30-foot ELCO- is not only friendly to the environment, it is also subject to annual safety inspections by the United States Coast Guard. When passed, these inspections allow the vessel to carry 14 passengers with the approval of the United States Coast Guard. The Captain holds a 200-ton Master Mariners Merchant Marine License and has been operating vessels for more than 25 years as master. For the past 12 years GLORY has safely carried thousands of passengers in Peconic Bay leaving them all with a greater appreciation of the advantages of electric non-polluting power.

Sailing for 45 minute cruises, from Memorial Day through the end of September, GLORY has a choice of four destinations in Peconic Bay. All the destinations are weather and traffic dependent, and passengers should remember that no one trip is better than another. All the destinations are quite unique and offer the passengers pleasure and enjoyment. Also, despite what some may have heard-as the top speed of GLORY is about six knots-going to Bermuda on the 45 minute cruise is quite out of the question.

Did You Know

Had GLORY been powered by a small diesel engine, more than 6,400 gallons of fuel would have been consumed in the past nine years. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) this much fuel would have added more than 142,000 pounds of the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere. Given the increased awareness of global warming, this would have been unacceptable.

The irony of an electric-powered boat like GLORY, is that the technology is not new. Electric boats were very popular at the dawn of the 20th century but unfortunately the battery technology was behind the curve. Nowadays, with sophisticated battery technology electric vehicles are much more user-friendly and less expensive to operate. They provide a clean, safe, inexpensive mode of transport. visit http://www.greenportlaunch.com/glory.htm
