Elco Motor Yachts is committed to raising awareness of the multiple benefits of electric propulsion in the marine industry, and the company is now bringing its technology leadership to the global marketplace. Elco is participating in the Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo in Amsterdam from June 24 – 26, 2014. The event will showcase emerging electric and hybrid marine propulsion technologies as well as host the inaugural Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards to honor the industry’s finest engineers, innovations and products. Elco has been nominated for three Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards: Innovation of the Year, Electric & Hybrid Propulsion System of the Year, and Chief Engineer of the Year.

The Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo will include exhibitors from all over the world demonstrating the latest efficient propulsion technologies, components and solutions to an audience of motor manufacturers, ship owners, boat builders, naval architects and military fleet operators. Elco will be at booth number 1875 showing its EP-4000 electric motor and demonstrating how a newly developed coupling connects Elco motors to Yanmar saildrives.

The Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards are judged by a team of international journalists, industry experts and academics. The awards cover five categories, including Supplier of the Year, Innovation of the Year, Propulsion System Manufacturer of the Year, Electric & Hybrid Propulsion System of the Year and Chief Engineer of the Year. The awards will be presented during the exposition at the Open Technology Area on Thursday, June 26. Elco’s award nominations include:

Innovation of the Year Nominee: Saildrive Coupling – Elco has developed a coupling that connects certain models from the company’s line of electric motors with Yanmar saildrives, making electric propulsion a more viable option for repowering sailboats equipped with saildrives.

Electric & Hybrid Propulsion System of the Year Nominee: EP-10000 – The EP-10000 delivers all the benefits of electric propulsion while generating power comparable to a 100hp diesel motor. It is Elco’s most powerful electric motor and one of the only motors on the market available to replace 75-125hp diesel motors in recreational vessels.

Chief Engineer of the Year Nominee: Joe Fleming – Fleming spearheaded not only the development of Elco’s EP-10000, which combines the benefits of electric propulsion with the power of a 100hp diesel motor, but also a coupling that makes part of Elco’s line of electric motors compatible with Yanmar saildrives.
